Book page size and bleed calculator
Pick your book's trim size to get the exact page size with bleed, where to keep your words, and how many pixels your full-page art needs.
Trim size is the finished size of your book after it is cut. Your file is a little bigger, so art can run past the edge.

Trim, bleed and the safe area
Books are printed on large sheets, then cut down to size. The trim size is the finished size of your book. Bleed is an extra 0.125 inch of art past every outside edge, so a slightly off cut lands on color instead of white paper. The safe area is at least 0.25 inch inside the trim: keep words, page numbers and faces inside it.
Margins toward the spine
Pages curve into the binding, so leave more room on the inside edge. About 0.625 inch toward the spine keeps words clear of it, with about 0.5 inch on the outside edges.
Setting it up
In InDesign or Affinity Publisher, set the page to your trim size and add 0.125 inch bleed. Word has no bleed setting, so set the page to the full size with bleed shown above. The free file checklist has every setting on two pages, and when you upload, we check every page for you.
