A typical 6 x 9 inch novel set in 11 point type holds about 300 words a page. Smaller books hold fewer: a 5 x 8 inch page holds around 200. Bigger type, wider line spacing, lots of dialogue and generous margins all mean fewer words per page and more pages.
Chapters and front matter add pages
Each chapter usually starts on a new page and ends part way down another, so a book with many short chapters runs longer. The title page, copyright page, contents, acknowledgments and about the author page all count too.
